If You Need to Go Early: The Herb Closet or Winooski Organics

Only two Burlington-area shops open before 10 AM on Sundays. The Herb Closet at 196 Pearl Street opens at 8 AM — the same time it does Monday through Thursday — and stays open until midnight. It's Burlington's first Black-owned dispensary, with a premium, locally grown menu and by far the most consistent early-and-late availability of any shop in the city. If you need cannabis before 10 AM on any day of the week, this is your only downtown Burlington option.

In Winooski, Winooski Organics opens at 8:30 AM on Sundays. The shop is on East Allen Street, about five minutes across the river from Burlington's Old North End. The closest shop to Burlington's waterfront is Green Haven Herbals at 18 Pearl Street (11 AM–6 PM), at the lower, lake end of Pearl Street within a short walk of Waterfront Park and the bike path. It's a boutique shop focused on premium, curated Vermont-grown product — a strong pick if you want to browse a smaller, well-chosen menu before or after a walk along the water. Farther up the same street, The Herb Closet at 196 Pearl Street (8 AM–midnight) is a roughly 10–15 minute uphill walk from the waterfront and the area's longest-hours backup if Green Haven is already closed. If You're Arriving by Car and Need Easy Parking

Metered street parking in downtown Burlington is free on Sundays, which makes Church Street-area shops (Float On, True 802, Garcia's, Bern Gallery) easy to reach without the weekday parking scramble. If you're driving in from outside Burlington, Upstate Elevator at 699 Pine Street (10 AM–6 PM) has dedicated on-site parking and easy access from I-89 Exit 14W. Heybud Dispensary in the South End at 291 Saint Paul Street (10 AM–8 PM) also has street parking and a more relaxed atmosphere than downtown.

Sunday vs Weekday: What's Actually Different

Hours are shorter. Most Burlington shops close 1–2 hours earlier on Sundays than on their weekday schedule. Lucky You has the biggest gap — it opens two hours later (noon vs 10 AM) and closes two hours earlier (5 PM vs 7 PM), giving it just a 5-hour Sunday window compared to a 9-hour weekday one. Parking is easier and free. Burlington's metered street parking is free on Sundays and major holidays. Crowds vary. Sunday afternoons (noon–3 PM) can be busy at Church Street shops, particularly when tourists are in town during summer weekends. If you want a quieter experience, the 10–11 AM window right when shops open tends to move faster. Tax is always the same. Vermont's 14% cannabis excise tax plus 6% sales tax applies every day of the week, including Sundays.
